Stop Waiting Until You Are Ready
Apr 06, 2021Your brain is always going to tell you that you’re not ready to do something.
It’s stuck in fear. Your brain is motivated by three things:
Seek pleasure.
Avoid pain.
Do it efficiently.
If you want to move forward, you have to learn to take action even when your brain is trying to stop you.
I did some scary things this week. Things that tell me how far I have fun.
I stood up for myself – stood in integrity when it could have been challenged.
I left my job because I was choosing to honor myself.
I took a leap of faith to go full time into my business.
The one thing I have learned recently is that if you wait to do things until you are ready you will never do them.
Waiting until you are ready is an illusion. It’s nothing more than your human brain functioning properly.
Your brain will always try to find the reason(s) why you’re not ready yet. They will likely disguise themselves as unconscious thoughts.
-you don’t have enough money
-you’re not qualified
-who do you think you are to do this?
-there’s already someone else doing what I want to do
-people will think I’m crazy
-it won’t work out
Sound familiar? These are all optional thoughts
Next time you find yourself:
*Waiting for the fear to go away
*for the perfect timing
*for the right “circumstances…”
*until you feel more confident
*until you have more money
Realize this is just your human brain trying to stop you from taking action.
But here is the good news:
-The fear will never go full go away, but you can still take action.
-The timing will never be perfect, but you can still take action.
-The circumstances are never going to be totally right, but you can still get started
-Your confidence grows from the actions you take
-You can find a way to get the money when you get outside your comfort zone and start believing that it is worth investing.
It’s never going to be JUST RIGHT. But you can decide that it is.
All progress starts with a brave decision.
Here are 4 steps to move into action:
- BELIEF // WHAT WOULD IT FEEL LIKE IF YOU WERE READY?
What would you need to FEEL to take action now? What intentional thoughts support you? Write down all the thoughts that you can use to put you into this energy.
- ACTION // WHAT ARE 5 ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE RIGHT NOW?
Hints – action from an empowered space is what we are going for – not from the energy of running from our fears. That’s why step 1 is first!
Side note: planning and preparing is not action! It’s further procrastination
Write down your 5 actions you can take today (even if they are just small steps forward)
- MAKE IT SCARY // SET THE GOAL TO DO THE THING THAT SCARES YOU THE MOST
If the action doesn’t scare the crap out of you, you probably aren’t getting outside your comfort zone. Write down the thing that you want to do that scares you the most –this means you are on the right path.
- MAKE AN INVESTMENT // HOW ARE YOU INVESTING IN YOUR GROWTH?
Humans experience loss aversion –we prefer avoiding losses vs. acquiring gains. Invest in yourself means you are more likely to take action. Example: Say you find 20 dollars and then you lose it. You will feel the pain of that more than you would feel the happiness of finding 20 dollars.
How can you invest in yourself that moves you to start showing up everyday?
Do the thing today. Make the call. Send the email. Quit the job. Start the workout. The more massive action you take, the more your comfort zone becomes expanded and the more confidence you gain.
