Why Managing Your Time is Critical to Your Self-Trust and Confidence

Or you are so overwhelmed trying to get things done perfectly that you are stuck procrastinating.
You end up checking your phone and email a million times, and suddenly is 2pm and you feel like you haven’t done sh*t.
This not only can be incredibly frustrating, but it starts to chip away at your own sense of self-trust and confidence.
I am the first person to admit that I get stuck on my Instagram feed for 15 minutes before I even realize it. I used to get pissed off and angry at myself, but now I am learning to have compassion for my primitive brain.
You see, our brain has three motivations based on our evolutionary wiring:
-seek pleasure
-avoid pain
-do it as efficiently as possible
Our human brain is just running the easiest program there is. And that is to use distraction to prevent us from feeling uncomfortable.
Underneath the distractions that our brain goes to – is the FEELING we are avoiding. The feeling we are avoiding is where the magic of our life happens. It is where we learn what we are afraid of and what our brain is distracting us from.
For high-achievers, managing time is critical because it can be so easy to go one of two ways
1. creating overwhelm by trying to do ALL THE THINGS to prove your worth.
2. having incredibly high expectations and perfectionistic tendencies which means you are frozen under the pressure to do things perfectly.

Here’s the truth – you don’t have to do any of the things you are putting on your to-do list. We often live in a world of all the things we SHOULD be doing without even looking at what we want to do.
Ask yourself – how did you spend your time in the last 24 hours?
how much time did you waste:
-worrying
-pleasing others
-doing things you should do
-beating yourself up
-stuck in drama and sh*t talking other people
-stuck in your own brain drama and anxiety
-distracted by your devices
The goal here is not to beat yourself up. It’s to realize that you are a human with a human brain and all of these things are INDULGENT – that means they are things your brain THINKS are productive and can use energy *doing*.
But they are also things that take you away from the joy of creating the life that you truly desire.
We are not at the mercy of our human brains. We do have control.
When you use your pre-frontal cortex to plan your days and how you WANT to spend your time and combine that with learning how to manage your emotions and thinking around your plan –you are going to start reaching your goals faster than you could imagine.
Without pressure and without overwhelm.
Your brain just needs guidelines.
